Dinner with Heart

The South Sound Chapter of the American Heart Association (AHA) decided to reimagine its annual Heart Ball fundraising event from a black tie affair to a less cocktail party with a family style dinner. The new event would be called Dinner with Heart and Sands Costner was tasked with creating a fresh, versatile new brand that would present well in a formal or casual setting.

To create the brand mark we married a formal script typeface with a bolder, more casual one, positioning the brand as a formal event that doesn’t take itself too seriously. We included a loosely constructed heart to further represent the focus of the event, to tug on the heartstrings of potential donors.

2014 Invitations & Event Materials

Taking inspiration from the event space ––a rustic barn turned event space, with views of the Puyallup River Valley––we created a rustic, yet chic, save the date postcard and invitation. We chose an image of the barn doors slightly opened, with a peak of the party inside, to entice prospective event goers to join in the festivities. We also provided the AHA with art for ads, bidding cards, menus and templates for signage that they could use as needed.

2015 Event

In 2015 we created new save the date postcards and ads that featured photos the 2014 event and upgraded the invitation from a front-back card to a more formal gatefold card.

The Results

$55,000 increase in donations

Sustained donations in 2015

The success of the rebrand is seen in the sustained increase in donations at the 2015 event.

We at the American Heart Association thoroughly enjoyed working with the professionals at Sands Costner! What could have been a very scary experience in re-branding an event with over 15 years of history turned into a great experience that resulted in a fresh brand that enticed new attendees and fully accomplished the look and feel we were going for.
